Harald Beck was born November 22, 1882 in Nesna (Nordland County) to Jacob Johannes Bech Christoffersen (1856-1922) and Line Mathilde Zahl (1860-1938). He immigrated to the United States in 1894 November and died in 1926.

Marie Beck was born Maria Henriette Berg on October 19, 1881 in Nesna (Nordland County) to Gunder Berg (1841-1925) and Kaia Olea Benjaminsdatter (1850-1937). Gundar (Gunnar) was the older brother to Ole Rølvaag's father, Peder Benjamin Jacobsen. She immigrated to the United States in 1916 and later died in 1926. Harald and Marie Beck were married on September 14, 1916 in Nordland and had two children: Fritjof Beck and Edith Marie Beck.
