Description

Karl Fritjof Rolvaag (1913 July 18–1990 December 20) recieved his BA from St. Olaf College and MA from the University of Minnesota in 1946. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of captain, and earning a Silver Star and Purple Heart for his service. After the war, he was an American Scandinavian Foundation Scholar at the University of Oslo where he received an law degree. 

Karl Rolvaag served as the 
31st Governor of Minnesota from 1963 to 1967, as a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) Party. After his tenure, he was appointed Ambassador to Iceland (1967-1969) by President Lyndon Johnson and was elected to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission. He was the son of Ole E. Rolvaag and Jennie Berdahl Rolvaag.
