Letter from Ole Rolvaag to Jennie Rolvaag, 1929 February 6

My dear girl!
There is no Western Union at this hotel, and it is too far away from the city; so you don’t get any telegrams, but letters. This morning Boe came; then I moved to the hotel Boe is staying at, because it won’t take so long to get around from there- from here is too far. In the afternoon I had 9 miles to drive; it took almost 40 minutes.
I did well in the afternoon as well, and felt no pains like I did yesterday evening. It was actually just fun in the afternoon. These old women finally wanted me to come again and give them “a course of lectures”. I said a nice thank-you for the compliment.
After the lecture I traveled to Mrs. Moody, and have just now gotten back to the hotel. It was the most peculiar experience I have had in my life, but too long to tell in a letter. Suffice to say that I had a lovely dinner, which tasted fine, especially since I had not tasted food since breakfast. I am suiting myself, talking as little as possible, meeting a little bit, but not much more than when I am at home.
This has been a rich splendor, and now that it is over and done, I do not want to lose it for anything.
Tomorrow evening we have the St. Olaf Alumni banquet, and then I have to give a speech, but I’m not greatly dreading it. Friday I have Marshall Field. I do not want to decide about New York before I am finished tomorrow evening; if I do not feel well, I do not want to travel. If I am not doing worse than today, I want to leave. I think it will be paid for by the sale of the book. I am awaiting a letter from Saxton tomorrow, and we will see what he says. I actually want more to visit Clarence and Evelyn and be there over Sunday than I want to visit New York.
Now I am tired and want to go to bed.
Greet everyone!
Yours
Ole
